A digital audio workstation (DAW) is a piece of hardware or software that is used to record, edit, and produce audio files. DAWs are available in a variety of configurations, ranging from a single software application running on a laptop to an integrated stand-alone unit to a highly complex configuration involving numerous components controlled by a central computer. Regardless of configuration, modern DAWs feature a centralised interface that enables users to edit and mix multiple recordings and tracks into a final product.
